Between December 1943 and May 1945, the 449th Bomb Group lost 101 aircraft to all causes.
A summary of the lost and missing aircraft is provided in the following pages. The aircraft losses are presented in chronological order. The information presented consists of the aircraft serial number, the squadron number, the pilot at time of loss, the target for the day, the aircraft name, and the aircraft tail number. The remarks column provides a brief description of the circumstances of loss, the fate of the crew in terms of KIA and POW, and the Missing Air Crew Report (MACR) number where applicable.
This information is derived from the files of the 449th Bomb Group Association compiled primarily by Lt. Col. Richard Downey (USAF ret'd), the 449th BGA Aircraft Historian. Supplemental information primarily regarding the circumstances of demise of the aircraft was iderived from the files of the USAF Historical Research Agency.
